The Beginnings of "Keep In Touch Massage Therapy" and Amy Alire's discovery of her "gift" of healing touch is a miracle in itself.
Early in 1995 terror struck the Alire family when Amy's beloved sister Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer and given a short two months to live. Amy was living in Northern California and her sister in Southern California. Amy made the trek to see her sister for what, she thought, might have been the final time. Mary had practically raised Amy from being a little girl into full womanhood, so it pained Amy to no end to see her sister in such unbearable pain from cancer and its treatments.
Since time was growing short the sisters decided to have a "quiet" moment together. In a room filled with candles and quiet music Amy began gently massaging her sister in an effort to ease the horrendous pain. Suddenly she noticed a "heat" coming from her hands. Mary, her sister, knew immediately that the "heat" was healing her and was a gift from God.
Amy at this time had no knowledge of massage and the only tools she had were the Love and compassion she felt for her sister. That and Amy's "gift" eased the pain.
Amy was now driven. Being a rational, logical person she wanted to find out the reason for the "heat" which healed. How did it occur? Could it be duplicated? Was it real?
She found out that yes, the body has a measurable energy field and when it comes into contact with another body's energy field the field changes. Through deep insight into herself and control of her own energy field she could control the energy fields of others for benefit and healing.
Amy was excited. She studied as though her sister's life depended on it, because in her mind, it did! She immediately enrolled in the Health Awareness Academy and earned a Certified Massage Therapist Credential in the spring of 1996. At that time she started treatment with her sister whose needs had changed. Mary still had cancer and Amy was determined to rid her sister of it. Even though the doctors scoffed at Amy and told her that massage therapy would not work with cancer, she knew that just touching her sister, a person who with cancer was considered untouchable to others, would help.
There were times when Amy could not even touch her sister because the pain was so unbearable. At this time an Angel came into Amy's life in the form of an emergency room nurse who was performing Reiki. Reiki re-balances the energy field without touching the person involved. This was amazing because it finally explained the "heat" in the hands, the generation of energy to rebalance the body's field of energy.
By fall of 1996 Amy was certified Reiki Master and later added a Master Teacher credential.
When her sister found it difficult to get on and off the massage table Amy found another modality called Watsu. Watsu is a form of water Shiatsu or Acupressure where you
float womb-like in pool of warm water. You are then manipulated in a gentle way to release all tension from your body so that it can heal.
In August of 1997 Amy enrolled in the School of Shiatsu and Massage at Harbin Hot Springs and became a trained "Watsu Practitioner".
Realizing that these modalities could help others, Amy founded Keep In Touch Massage Therapy. She supported herself by working a massage chair pool-side at different hotels and resorts. Amy merely gave a free massage to the managers and employees of these different places. As soon as her talented hands touched these people she became the exclusive massage therapist for the Holiday Inn Palm Mountain Resort, Courtyard by Marriott, Orchid Tree Inn, Casa Cody and many others.
Amy's reward for all her hard work was that her beloved sister lived 4 years longer than the Doctors had given her. Mary Alire Shorts' dignity and grace with which she departed this lovely earth gave Amy the dignity and grace to carry on even though she was devastated to lose her devoted sister.
The four years had taken their toll on Amy. She needed to relax and have fun. She decided to learn to golf, a sport that had attracted her for many years and was very popular in the Coachella Valley where she now made her home.
During this time Amy discovered that golf had its own injuries and debilitation's. In March of 1999 Amy became the first Certified Massage Therapist in the United States to complete a Course designed for Chiropractors to become "Golf Doctors," Studying under Peter Mackay DC, Director of the Golf Fitness Institute she added Golf Fitness Massage Therapy to her long list of services.
In Mid- 2004 Amy's interest in the Medical Healing Arts has been manifested when she joined Michael Soloman M. D., L.Ac. As an in office Massage Therapist for one day a week, leaving time for her other patients and of course GOLF. You can also find her at Cimarron Golf Resort as their Certified Golf Fitness Massage Therapist.
In July 2005 Amy's continuting education earn her the title of Certified Prenatal Massage Doula. "Doula" Greek handmaiden for women who assist another women through the child birth process. Provinding prenatal massage and Labor support services for Mothers and Babies ensures a more satisfying birth expereince. With records of 4-5 hours births has mothers calling Amy "Mother's Angel".
Today Keep In Touch Massage Therapy provides a unique environment to nurture the spirit and calm the body. Clients, patients, as well as fellow therapists and healers come to Keep in Touch to "Experience the Difference".
